When your tooth’s biting surface has been damaged by tooth decay or by a fracture, Dr. Fellner might suggest providing you with dental inlays or onlays.
This treatment method is used when the tooth is not damaged enough to receive a crown. An inlay uses a porcelain binding material and is restricted to the center of your tooth. An onlay is also a porcelain bonding material that extends to more than one tooth.
In order to place the inlay or onlay, Dr. Fellner will remove the filling or decay in the infected tooth. A digital scan will then be taken of the tooth and sent to a dental lab for custom manufacturing. In the meantime, Dr. Fellner will place a temporary inlay or onlay on your tooth.
Then, during your second appointment, the temporary filling will be replaced by a permanent inlay or onlay. Dr. Fellner will polish the tooth once everything has been fitted nicely.
This treatment benefits many patients because the inlays and onlays are durable, comfortable, and look natural. They can also strengthen your tooth by up to 75%.
